Some say: "I believe" and "I know". . .Philosophers ask: "Why?" and seek answers.

When the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle declared that philosophy begins in wonder, he meant that philosophy begins with a wide-ranging, deep curiosity, a curiosity about both the natural and the human world in which we live. "Philosopher" in Greek means a lover of wisdom, someone who raises serious questions about the world and someone whose curiosity is not satisfied by easy, superficial answers. Thus philosophers like Socrates long ago acquired a reputation for being critical thinkers.
A philosopher also wants things to fit together, wants them to make sense in a coherent big picture. In fact, those who disagree are often the best people to learn from since they do not allow us to rest content with the answers we have accepted. Reasoning together in dialogue with those who may not agree has been at the heart of philosophy ever since those ancient days.
If you are a person who is not willing to settle for superficial answers to your questions and who values logic and reasoning together with those of a different point of view, then philosophy is for you.
